Mr. Garst died January 27, 1972 in Harlingen, Texas. Interment was at Thurman Cemetery, Thurman, Iowa. David Elmer Garst, son of Arnold and Linda McCray Garst, was born September 23, 1892, at Watson, Mo. He spent his youth in the Watson area where he was born and later in Hamburg, Iowa, where he grew to adulthood. He was united in marriage to Leona Flynn in 1922 and after a few years in Colorado they returned to Iowa where they located in Conway in 1928 and operated a service station, bulk oil plant and a hardware store until their retirement. Conway was still their home although they spent the winter months in southern Texas for the past several years. He was a veteran of World War I, a very active member of the American Legion, a member of the Masonic Order and Order of Eastern Star and the Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Leona who passed away October 10, 1971; his parents, two brothers, Ray and Albert; and one sister, Mrs. Bess Bellus. He is survived by one son, Arnold, by a previous marriage; a stepson, Arthur Flynn of Dearborn, Michigan; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Quinn of Sarasota, Florida, other relatives and many friends. He was a kind and considerate loved one and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bedford Times-Press Thursday, February 3, 1972 p. 4
