Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery northeast of Emporia. Mr. Torrens was born Nov. 24th, 1879, in Oakdale, Ill., the sone of William J. and Harriet M. Campbell Torrens, and he was married to Ida Phillips on Nov. 17th, 1900, in Lyon County. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Sept. 19th, 1962, and by one son, Ernest; two daughters, Beulah Robinson and Lottie Torrens, and one sister, Hattie Phillips. He is survived by three sons, Elmer M., of Sheridan, Wyo., Leonard E., 111 South Market St., and David Jr., of 301 South Sylvan St.; six daughters, Mrs. Earl (Dela) Barncord, 326 South Cottonwood St.; Mrs. Andrew (Ethyl) Fowler, Rt. 4; Mrs. Glen (Alice) Gunkel, 306 West Thirteenth Ave.; Mrs. John (Mabel) White, Yates Center; Mrs. Owen (Leatha) Schaefer, Rt. 4, and Mrs. Dailey, the former Maxine Torrens; four sisters, Mrs. A.H. (Kathryn) Lawry, 711 Sunnyslope St.; Mrs. Guy C. (Lucy) Wilson, 502 West St.; Mrs. Lynn (Lily) Garriott, 621 East Sixth Ave., and Mrs. Edwin (Elizabeth) Kulander, Flint Hills Manor Nursing Home, 34 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren.
