Numerous nieces and nephews are also left to cherish his memory. David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen Maser. David was born on Oct. 18, 1941, to Walter and Helen (Ochsner) Maser in Aurora, Ill. David spent his early life in Illinois, before moving to Sutton in 1945. David graduated from Sutton High School in 1958. During his time at Sutton High School, David participated in both basketball and football, and he excelled academically, graduating high school at the age of 16. David pursued his higher education at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1964, David obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Nebraska - College of Law. Following graduation, David was a member of the Air National Guard, and he returned to Sutton to practice law with John Bottorf. David practiced with Bottorf & Maser for more than 50 years. Early in his legal career, David served as Clay County Attorney from 1971 to 1974. During his career as an attorney with Bottorf & Maser, David thrived on helping members of the communities in and around Sutton and Henderson in planning for their futures by preparing wills, trusts and estates. David was a consummate counselor and adviser to all in need. David loved the Sutton area he called home, and gave freely of his time, talent and energy to support and grow the community. He thoroughly enjoyed attending and supporting the local sports teams and events, and was always prominently heard rooting for the Fillies and Mustangs. He served on the Sutton school board, as well as the boards of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, the Sutton Historical Society and the Sutton Community Foundation. David was also proud of his lifelong participation in agriculture. He was actively involved in the farming business, overseeing several Nebraska farming operations, including his family farm which has been in the Maser family for over 100 years. David was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Reformed Church. He was baptized in the Church and served several terms on the Spiritual Council as an Elder. David truly loved the congregation and its fellowship in Christ. David was an avid sports fan. He loved both the Husker football and basketball teams and until his recent health issue, had not missed a Husker football game in more than 30 years. David also loved the Chicago Cubs baseball team and cherished the World Series Championship they finally won in 2016. David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family and truly enjoyed watching all types of events in which his grandchildren participated. He also cherished fishing trips he would take with his grandchildren, son and son-in-law, and his brothers-in-law. David and Harriet were partners in all things and truly embodied the definition of a loving marriage. David was also a mentor to his children, Matt and Sarah, as they both followed in his footsteps by entering the legal profession. To all those whose lives David touched, he left an indelible mark. He will be greatly missed.
