Table Rock Argus, Dec. 1907 (pg.5,column 1) David King Miller was born December 16th, 1848 in Jamaica, West Indies. His parents were sent out from Scotland as missionaries, at the age of ten he was taken to Scotland and received his education. He came to America in an early day and has lived in Pawnee county for many years. In October 1878, he was united in marriage to Jennie Isabella Taylor. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Mabel Anderson of Wilsonville, this state, Robert Taylor and Gordon David. He also leaves a brother George Wishart Miller of Pawnee City, Nebr. For many years Mr. Miller had been troubled with cancer which became very threatening, about six months ago he had an operation performed and then a little later another. Finally he decided to go to Bronx, New York to take treatment under a cancer specialist, and he and Mrs. Miller made the trip to New York about two weeks ago, but he was told that there was absolutely no hope for his recovery. They returned home Thursday afternoon and about five o'clock Friday morning he passed away. The entire community mourns the death of this great man, he was not only a true and faithful husband and father, but a Christian citizen. He stood for every thing that was for the good of the community. He had the respect and confidence of all and many sought his counsel and advice. It is with gratitude and sorrow that we think of his relationship to the Presbyterian church; gratitude for his life and more for the pleasure we received in fellowship with him in Christian work. He was a friend, a brother, a father to all and it was one of the greatest pleasures of his life to be in the midst of the Sunday School on the Sabbath day. It is with sorrow when we think that he will be with us no more, for he added cheerfulness and life to the days work. He took delight in sharing the social and spiritual life of the church and he was a friend and companion to the boys and girls, entering into their pleasures as if he were many years younger. It is like breaking the home circle to have him go, but we would not call him back, for he is now beyond all suffering. Truly it may be said of him "The path of the just is as a shining light that shineth more and more until the perfect day." The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church of Table Rock, conducted by the Pastor assisted by Rev. W. H. Parker. The remains were taken to Pawnee City accompanied by a large number of relatives and friends. (Column 3) In the death of David King Miller Table Rock loses one of her best citizens, one whose place will be hard to fill, for he was friend and advisor to so many that his loss touches almost every home and individual in the community. His life was one of activity, yet he found time to aid others in times of need, his character was manly, dignified and pure, devoid of ostentation and pride, his disposition buoyant, kindly and sweet, winning the respect, confidence and friendship of those with whom he came in contact. In business he was honest and honorable, and the State Bank of Table Rock, of which he was the head for nearly a quarter of a century, has grown from a small institution into one of the greatest banks in Nebraska, and now that he is gone, the same careful, conservative policy will be observed in the future management. In church fellowship Mr. Miller was a Presbyterian, and gave liberally of his means to the church; he was interested in young life, and for several years was superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday School. At the November election he was elected state senator to fill the vacancy caused by Dr. Wilson, he was also Dr. Wilson's successor on the school board. Words cannot portray his loss to the community, for he was everything, that tender loving husband and father implies, and the sympathy that goes out to his surviving ones comes from hearts that feel the loss of a personal friend. ******************************************************** THE LINCOLN STAR (Lincoln, Nebr.) Miller died yesterday morning at his home here after an illness of several months with cancer. He was president of the State Bank of Table Rock and was elected this fall to be state Senator from the First Senatorial district to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. W. H. Wilson. In the last few months he had submitted to several operations. As a last resort he visited a specialist in Rome, N. Y. , but received no encouragement and his wife, who was with him, was advised to take him home as quickly as possible. He was brought home on Thanksgiving day. He was about 60 years old and leaves a wife and two sons, Robert and Gordon, living here, and a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Anderson of Wilsonville, Nebr.
