Kocher, 711 Bristol-av, was killed at 7 p.m. Sunday in a freak automobile accident on Route 30-S, one-half mile east of Bellefontaine-av. His death marked the 21st traffic fatality in Allen-co this year. According to Deputy Sheriff Edward Fair, the child was riding in the front seat with his father and started to crawl over the seat when he lost his balance. His had struck the rear door handle, the door swung open, and the child fell from the car directly into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Frank Kottenbrock, 33, Route 2, Lafayette. Kottenbrock told Deputy Fair he saw the child plunge from the car but was unable to stop or swerve his automobile to avoid hitting the boy. Marks on the pavement showed Kottenbrock had skidded his car for approximately 50 feet. The boy's body was dragged more than 30 feet. A skull fracture caused death. The accident occurred within three blocks of the Kocher residence in Lost Creek-addn, while father and son were returning home after taking a neighbor to Memorial hospital to visit a patient. The victim was a first grade pupil at Bath-tp school. Survivors besides the parents are four sisters, Patricia, Florence, Janell and Linda; one brother, George, all at home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Aldine Brenneman, 1125 Fairview-av, the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Kocher, Elida. The body will remain in Davis-Miller and Son funeral home for services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cathedral Chapel. The Rev. Arthur M. Romig will officiate, and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. (published in The Lima News, Monday, September 18, 1950)
