Description	:	He was the son of Abram and Mahala (Cantrell) Parris. He was just two years of age when his father marched off to war. He was engaged in some heavy fighting, was wounded, and discharged in Virginia. After making his way home he became alarmed about how much danger his family was in. Taking what belonings they could, they fled over the mountains into Tennessee with a team and wagon. David was six when the Civil War ended and his family settled in Grainger County.
