Description	:	Mr. David R. "Hookie" Meridith, age 88 of Huckleberry Road passed away June 1, 2013 at the home of his daughter. Mr. Meridith was born February 2, 1925 a son of the late Roy Sr. and Martha Eugenia Rogers Meridith. Mr. Meridith was a United States Army veteran. He served in the Southern Philippines Campaign where he was awarded the Bronze Campaign Star, the Asiatic-Pacific and Philippine Liberation where he was awarded the Bronze Star Ribbon. "Hookie" Meridith, age 88 of Huckleberry Road passed away June 1, 2013 at the home of his daughter. Mr. Meridith was born February 2, 1925 a son of the late Roy Sr. and Martha Eugenia Rogers Meridith. Mr. Meridith was a United States Army veteran. He served in the Southern Philippines Campaign where he was awarded the Bronze Campaign Star, the Asiatic-Pacific and Philippine Liberation where he was awarded the Bronze Star Ribbon. He was a member of the U.S. Army Ski team while he was stationed at Camp Hale, Colorado, and was a member of the U.S. Army football team. While stationed in the Philippines, Mr. Meridith was chosen out of his unit to stand honor guard for General Douglas MacArthur which was the highlight of his military career. He was one of the oldest members of Gethesame Baptist Church where he served in all capacities of the church leadership. Mr. Meridith was a humble man who was looked up to by the people of his community and most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He put God first, family, and then his country. Mr. Meridith was a faithful and devoted husband of forty five years to the love of his life, the late Grace Graham Meridith. He was predeceased by one son, Thomas G. Meridith, two grandchildren, Adrian Meridith, Christopher Meridith, two sisters, infant sister Dorothy Rae Meridith, Katie Meridith, two brothers, Charlie Meridith, and Bishop Meridith. Mr. Meridith is survived by his children, Davine Meridith Edwards and her husband Marvin of Conway, two grandchildren, Gray Meridith and his wife Stephani of Myrtle Beach, John David Meridith of Aynor, two great grandchildren, Madison Meridith, Emma Lee Meridith, one brother Roy Meridith Jr. of Lutz, Florida, four sisters, Laura Jean Gibson of Centenary, SC, Betty Jo Parissh of Miami, Florida, Furman Long of Ash, NC, Leigh White of Marion, SC, one daughter in law, Joanne M. Joyner of Aynor, SC, two sister in laws, Mary Alice Meridith of Johnsonville, SC, Bernice Meridith of Savannah, Georgia, one brother in law, Elton Johnson of Galivants Ferry, SC, a special niece, Bonita Hinson of Galivants Ferry, S.C., great nephew, Doug Hinson and his wife Becky of Aynor, great niece Pam Hinson of Buffalo, NY, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Sylvia Lewis for all the special care that she gave to Mr. Meridith and his family.
