Franklin, 86, a 50-year resident and former businessman of Chelan, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1911, at Sunnyside, the son of Watson and Hattie Belle (Flournoy) Franklin. The family resided in various locations before moving to Yakima. Mr. Franklin attended and was graduated from Yakima High School in 1931. He then moved to Chelan, and later to Weiser, Idaho. In 1936, he returned to Chelan. On April 20, 1938, he was married to Lyda Verona Card at Chelan. Following their marriage, they resided at Chelan until 1942, when they moved to Spokane. They returned to Chelan in 1947, where they have since resided. For many years, Mr. Franklin owned and operated Franklin Furniture in partnership with his brother until 1968. He continued operating the store as a proprietorship until 1972, when he retired. He was a member of the Chelan Christian Church; Chelan Valley Lodge No. 118, F.&.A.M. and was a past master; the El Katif Shrine; Scottish Rite KCCH; Wenatchee Court of Amaranth; Silver Star Chapter 93, O.E.S., and was past patron; Lake Chelan Lions Club; and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Franklin also had about 40 years of activity with Don Morse's Boy Scout Troop 53. Survivors include his wife, Verona, of the home; two sons, Richard D. and his wife Sharon of Vancouver, and Jonathan E. of Seattle; two brothers, Delance of Boise, Idaho, and Fred of Chelan; a half brother, James Franklin of Boise, Idaho; a half sister, Gracie Levi of Colfax; and two grandchildren, Darek Richard and Amy Donel Franklin, both of Vancouver. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
