Description	:	Davis E. Pollock, 93, of Ames, formerly of Douds died at 12:40 am Sunday August 31, 2014 at Northcrest Health Center, Ames. He was born April 16, 1921 in Douds-Leando to Dr. Roscoe and Elizabeth Doud Pollock and married Dorothy Barker July 7, 1940 at her parents' home in Douds. Davis graduated from Douds High School in 1939 and from Iowa Success School, Ottumwa. In 1940 the Pollocks moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked for the U.S. State Department. He was born April 16, 1921 in Douds-Leando to Dr. Roscoe and Elizabeth Doud Pollock and married Dorothy Barker July 7, 1940 at her parents' home in Douds. Davis graduated from Douds High School in 1939 and from Iowa Success School, Ottumwa. In 1940 the Pollocks moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked for the U.S. State Department. In 1942 they returned to Douds where he became affiliated with Barker Mercantile which he later owned and operated for many years. He also owned and operated D.E. Pollock Insurance Agency with office in the store. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Storekeeper in Little Creek, VA during World War II. Dave was a life-long active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Douds and served on the official board and many committees. He was a Past Master and long-time treasurer of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, member of Twin City Chapter No. 258 Order of the Eastern Star, served many years as adjutant of John Hyson Reneker Post No 494, American Legion, secretary of Douds Community Club and as a volunteer fireman with Douds Fire Department. He had also served on the Douds-Leando School board, was founder of the former Douds Development Corporation, served on the Van Buren Foundation Board and was active in Douds Field Day and Van Buren County Republican party. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, two daughters, Margy Howarth(Dean)of Ames and Carol Pollock of San Diego, CA, daughter-in-law, Marcia Pollock of Madison, WI, four grandchildren, Eric Pollock(Eve), Kristen Pollock, Kelly Leon Howarth(Neyo)and Bradley Howarth(Dave Bastien)and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Davis Pollock, a sister, Elizabeth Sutherland and two brothers, John and Larry Pollock. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday September 5, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Rev. Robert G. Farr and Rev. Mark Young officiating. Visitation will open at 3 pm Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with family present 5-7 pm Masonic rites by Celestial Lodge will be at the church following the funeral. Burial with military honors by John Hyson Reneker Post will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds. Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family Ames, IA.
