Description	:	He was a Revolutionary soldier. He came from Chesire, Conn. to Walingford, Vt., 1779, with his wife Repentance and three children. The house where Nathaniel Ives Jr. first lived in Wallingford is near the present site of the south corner of Main and Florence. It was on the bank of the Roaring Brook, was of logs, with no heath and no door (POW p. 56). It is interesting to note that he early made use of of the water-power of the Roaring Brook for industrial purposes. On March 23, 1802, he granted to Alexander Miller during the period from Oct. first to May fifteenth, annually, the priveledge of turning water of the Brook for the benefit of Miller's works, where they fabricated hoes, axes, nails, etc. on the east side of the main road (POW p. 222). Nathaniel Ives Jr., was first deacon of the Congregational Church in Wallingford (POW p. 49). Lent Ives is the probable son of Nathaniel Ives and Repentance (Wise) Ives based on the following circumstantial evidence: 1. Lent Ives fits as a son in Nathaniel Ives’s 1791, 1800, and 1810 census. He does not fit with Lent Ives (Nathaniel’s brother) in 1791 or 1800. 2. Lent Ives was a resident of Wallingford in 1814 (age 24). Lent Ives (elder), Nathaniel Ives, and Lent Ives (younger) were the only Ives land owners in Wallingford between 1810 and 1820. 3. Lent Ives was referred to as 2nd and not as junior when conducting a land sale with Lent Ives (elder) in 1814. 4. Nathaniel Ives did a land transaction with Lent Ives for an immediate loss to Nathaniel of $100. Lent Ives sold the land he bought in 1814 for $300 to Nathaniel Ives in 1818 for $400 (Lent Ives elder as witness), then Nathaniel sold it Lent Ives (elder) for $300. 5. Lent Ives was identified as executor to Nathaniel Ives’s estate in 1827. It was not specified if Lent Ives was Nathaniel’s brother or son, but his son would take precedence (assuming he was capable). 6. It appears that Lent’s parents came to live with him. They all appear to have left Rutland in 1821 for Castleton, Rutland, Vermont. Repentance (Wise) Ives died in Castleton in 1823. Nathaniel Ives died in Castleton in 1825. Repentance and Nathaniel had previously lived in Wallingford (1779-1815) and Rutland (1815-1821), while Lent Ives lived in Wallingford (?-1814), Rutland (1812?-1826?), and Castleton (1821-1826). I only have Lent’s land index in Rutland and not the records, so I can’t be certain when he made it home and not just investment property. He was living in Rutland in 1818 when sold land in Wallingford. He and Nathaniel were in Rutland in 1820 for the federal census. There are no other known children or relatives of Nathaniel and Repentance in Castleton. 7. Lent Ives died in 1831. The estate of Lent Ives (elder) in 1838 did not identify Lent Ives (younger)’s family as beneficiaries.
