Read More	HEATH, DEAN BARKER—Dean Barker Heath was born November 1st, 1924 to Hugh and Lila Barker Heath on a farm in Geneva Township, Fillmore County. He passed away June 10th, 2000 at the Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 75 years, seven months and nine days. Dean attended Geneva Public School and graduated with the class of 1943. In September of that year, he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a gunner’s mate aboard the USS Adams in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater. He was honorably discharged on May 1st, 1946. On May 5, 1948, Dean was married to Lois Marie Schelbitzki at the home of her parents near Strang. To this union was born a son, Larry Dean. Over the next several years they lived in many communities. Dean’s job for the Department of Roads took them to Arthur, Red Cloud and Valentine, just to name a few. In 1955, they purchased a motel in Fairmont. Dean and his family returned to Geneva in 1959 when he began his career in the construction business. Heath Construction built and remodeled many homes and businesses in Geneva and the surrounding communities during nearly 30 years of business. Dean loved the outdoors. That was reflected in his hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, gardening and grandchildren. Over the years, there were many hunting and fishing trips to Canada, Texas and various “ponds” in between. Dean enjoyed not only the sport, but also the lasting memories that were made with friends and family. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Methodist Church. Lois passed away August 10th, 1996. On January 20th, 1999, at Ord, Valley County, Dean was married to Glenna Bottorf Stephens. Besides his widow, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane; grandchildren Doug and Lyndsey Heath; by his sister, Marilyn Domeier and husband Louis; step-children, Diane Hutchins, Gary Korn, Terry Korn, Dick Korn, Randy Korn; step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; 15 nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lois; brother and sister-in-law Harlan and Roberta Heath and an infant niece. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Tuesday, June 13th, 2000, with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Gaylord and Nancy Heath Cradduck who sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Doug Heath, Mitch Hedden, Dennis Kraus, Jim Domeier, Layne Schelbitzki and Gary Korn. Serving as honorary bearers were Ted Hedden, Bill Watmore, Dick Walters, Si Lomax and Ray Cellar. Military burial was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 28th, 2000 page 9.
