Scarbrough was called Friday after long illness Mrs. C.F. Scarbrough, one of the pioneer residents of this county, passed away Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.B. Shissler, after an illness of several weeks. The Obituary follows: Deborah Elizabeth McCauley, daughter of James R. and Rebecca McCauley, was born in Stephenson county, Illinois, June 11, 1856 and departed this life in the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.B. Shissler of this city on February 25, 1921, at 64 years, 8 months and 14 days. She came with her parents to Jasper county, Iowa in the year 1873 and located on a farm between Fairmont and Monroe. Here she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage with Charles F. Scarbrough on January 1, 1880. To this union were born seven children, six daughters and one son, all of whom survive her. The deceased was converted in girlhood and united with the Disciple church and remained in the fellowship of that church until after her marriage, when she transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church and remained a faithful member of the same until the Lord transferred her from the church militant to the church triumphant. Sister Scarbrough was one of those quiet, unassuming saints of God, who like the Master, went about doing good. Of her it may be truly said, "She hath done what she could." She was a kind and faithful wife and mother, looking after her home duties that devolved upon her with a devotion and painstaking diligence that was beautiful; she was a good neighbor and a worthy citizen. She will be greatly missed in the home and the community. She leaves her husband, six daughters: Mrs. E.B. Shissler, of Colfax, Iowa; Mrs. J.R. Guessford of Des Moines, Iowa: Mrs. Elmer Charlesworth of New Rockford, North Dakota; Mrs. E.J. Guessford of Sumner, Nebraska; Mrs. Harry Westfall of Benchland, Montana; Helen F., of of Hobson, Montana; one son Iden, of Great Falls, Montana, two brothers, Oscar McCauley of Long Beach, California and Frank McCauley of Mitchellville, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Manchester Offill of Prairie City, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, February 27, at 2:30, and internment in the McKeever cemetery. All the children and grandchildren were present at the funeral services.
