She was baptized on December 7, 1952 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Spokane and was confirmed on April 28, 1968 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Spokane. She graduated from the following schools: Comstock and Jefferson Elementary, Joel E. Ferris High School and Eastern Washington University. She married Michael Craig on April 25, 1976. Debbie was born on Election Day. The first presidential election that her mother was able to vote and, of course, she missed it and had to wait another four years for that privilege. Debbie made a strong statement on her arrival and she continued all her life to work hard and succeed in everything she chose to do. She graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Business and Fashion Merchandising. For more than ten years she worked at the Crescent Department Store as a buyer in the cosmetics department and ladies wear. Debbie later continued her career at Empire Health Services as a buyer of medical and other supplies for the hospitals. She worked there for 20 years. Earning badges and ribbons, completing other projects of the Campfire Girls and camping at Camp Sweyolaken on Coeur d'Alene Lake were some of her favorite activities growing up. Her enthusiasm for the outdoors, boating and swimming were part of her family life from childhood. Later she and her husband, Mike, loved camping in the wilderness in the Lake Wallowa, Oregon area and camping with friends on Pend Oreille Lake. She took her own children, Rochelle and Neil, to those favorite places. Debbie lived her life with passion and an abundance of energy and enthusiasm. She served as both a Girl Scout leader for Rochelle and a Cub Scout leader for Neil, filling her garage with Girl Scout cookies when she volunteered to be "cookie mom". She cherished her family, tirelessly giving, creating and serving. After a long workday, she came home to start her second job, the care of her family. From the time her children were old enough to connect with others, Debbie's home was filled with young people. Hers was the home where the neighborhood children wanted to be. As Neil and Rochelle became teenagers, Debbie opened her home to their friends when they were in need of help. The Craig's home was a sanctuary and Debbie provided support. She has a group of young people, her "adopted children", who think of her as mom. Debbie loved her yard and working with the earth. She planted and tended flowers and vegetables, sharing the abundance with family and friends. Through her life she expressed creativity in all she did. Every season and holiday she decorated her yard and home, each with a new décor. Debbie enjoyed a multitude of crafts, making handmade gifts at Christmas and Easter. Her latest hobby was the creation of unique greeting cards, each one a work of art.
