Description	:	DeForest Jansen was born the 17th day of March, 1917 on a farm east of Creston, NE the elder of two sons of Herman Fred and Dollie Adelpha (Stevens) Jansen. He grew up on the family farm east of town and attended Rural School District #78 and was graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1935. Read More	DeForest Jansen was born the 17th day of March, 1917 on a farm east of Creston, NE the elder of two sons of Herman Fred and Dollie Adelpha (Stevens) Jansen. He grew up on the family farm east of town and attended Rural School District #78 and was graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1935. He worked at Palmateer Grocery while also helping his father farm. He spent one summer in Minnesota with a threshing crew. Upon his return, he worked at the Farmers Store. He was married to Luella Jean Sander at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Creston, NE on September 17, 1940 by the late Rev. Richard L. Jobman and to this union two sons were born: Keith Sander on October 16, 1943 and Timothy Forest on October 24, 1948. Luella passed away January 3, 2010. He purchased the Phillips farm east of Creston, NE in 1949 and he remained there until moving to the Countryside Home in Madison, NE May 17, 2001. DeForest was baptized and was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church in Creston until his marriage when he joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he was elected to the church council and served as the church treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood as well as the Christian Fellowship. He was also elected to public office. He was Platte Co. Supervisor for 8 years, on the ASC Service Committee, the Platte Co. Republican Committee, The Loup Public Power Dist. General Committee and was co-chair with his wife of the Platte Co. March of Dimes Drive. He was a charter member of the Creston Rescue and served as the unit's treasurer and was elected to the Platte Co. Agricultural Society, serving on the racing, entertainment and scholarship committees and grounds and building committee. He and Luella were proud to be honored as the Platte Co. Outstanding Farm Family of the year by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, having had the Jansen land in the same family for over 100 years. DeForest passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Countryside Home in Madison, NE, at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 17 days. He is survived by his sons – Keith Jansen of Valley, NE and Tim Jansen of Creston, NE; 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Susan and Dr. Kelly Hinrichs of Valley, NE, Dr. Craig and Christine Jansen of Omaha, NE, Christopher and Becky Jansen of Lincoln, NE and Curtis and Laurie Jansen of Columbus, NE; He has 9 great grandchildren: Madelyn Mae Hinrichs, Lily Elizabeth Jansen, Brooks Jansen Hinrichs, Laura Emelie Jansen, Parker James Jansen, Barrett Kelly Hinrichs, Hayden James Jansen, Lydia Ella Jansen and Rowan William Jansen. He is also survived by his brother and wife, DeWayne and Laura Jansen of Columbus, NE; a sister in-law – Margaret Hobza of Leigh, NE; an aunt – Jessie Stevens of Madison, NE; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his wife, Luella; his loving daughter-in-law, Shirley and one great grandchild. Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston, NE. The Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Creston, NE. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Creston Rescue Unit. Rest Eternal Grant Unto Him, O Lord, and May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. Moser Memorial Chapel – Fremont, NE is in charge of arrangements.
