Mohnike, oldest son of Chester A. and Mabel Brooks Mohnike, was born August 7, 1914 on the family farm south of Sutton. He died January 6, 1985 at the York hospital at the age of 70 years and 5 months. As a child he attended rural school in Fillmore County and graduated from Sutton High School in 1932. On September 3, 1938 he was married to Delores V. Hicks at Concordia, Kansas. They moved to Los Angeles, CA where he was employed. In 1943 they returned to Nebraska to begin farming with his father. He later worked as a mechanic and welder for several businessmen in Sutton, retiring in 1979 from Consumers Co-op Propane. He was a member of the Sutton Federated Church and the Sutton Volunteer firemen. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, brother LeRoy, sister Melva Schmidt and an infant daughter, Darlene. He is survived by his wife, Delores; 4 daughters; Jacqueline (Mrs. Marlin Griess), Aurora; Cheryl (Mrs. Charles Moore), Lincoln; Debra (Mrs. Richard Buerer) Edgar; Teri (Mrs. John Sharkey) Sutton; 4 sons; Steve and Gary, Sutton; Doug, Grand Island; and Merlin at home; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Sutton Federated Church on Wednesday with the Reverend Robert Bowne officiating Kenneth Kauk and David Kauk were the vocalists and were accompanied by Betty Barbee. Casket bearers were Robert Sterkel, Bill Bergen, Lowell Houts, Jim Mohnike, Ernie Traudt, Marlowe Monson. Honorary bearers were Paul Schneider, Henry Bergen, Paul Bender, Don Syring, Pat Merrick, Clarence Stengel, Rufus Hust, Wally Bender and Art Kessler. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery with Kohler Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
