Brick was born July 26, 1909 to Herman and Clara (Papke) Brick in New Hope Township, rural Aberdeen, S.D. He served in the CCC Camp during the 1930s in the Black Hills area. Delbert married Caroline Shilman in August 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Highland Township. They lived on the family farm west of Warner for many years. In 1959, they moved to Aberdeen where he was employed with Safeguard until his retirement in 1970. They moved to his son Carroll Brick's farm after his retirement. With his love of children, Delbert took a part-time job with the Warner School District driving the school bus for fifteen years. Delbert suffered a stroke in 1985 and was forced to retire at that time. Delbert enjoyed playing cards with his brothers for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Twins Baseball. Delbert especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Delbert has been a resident of ManorCare Health Services since 1998. Thankful for having shared in his life are one son, Carroll (Pat) Brick of Aberdeen; three daughters: Wanda Barnhart of Petoskey, Mich., Laureen (Mike) Fuller of Tacoma, Wash. and Peggy (Chuck) Anderson of Port Orchard, Wash.; one brother, Harold (Muriel) Brick of Aberdeen, one sister, Lois (Roger) Wodke of Tehachapi, Calif., nine grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, seventeen great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; one son, Ival Brick; one granddaughter, Becky Hammrich; two brothers: Herbert and Elmer Brick; one sister, Dorothy Evelo and son-in-law, Ralph Barnhart. Pallbearers will be Brady Hammrich, Aaron Brick, Dennis Brick John Braun, Ron Goehring, Robert Ristau and Terry Yun. Honorary pallbearers will be all the staff and caregiving employees of ManorCare Health Services. Aberdeen News 2/27/2005
