Mrs. Frank Cox died this morning at her home near Wooster of appendicitis. Mrs. Cox had relatives and many friend here, who were grieved to hear of her death. ---------------------- Fairfield Ledger-Weekly Wednesday October 21, 1903 Pg. 3 Col. 2 COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE. DEATH OF MRS. COX Our community was greatly shocked Friday morning when the startling and unexpected news flew from lip to lip that Kate Cox (sic) was dead. Mrs. Cox had been ill with appendicitis for several weeks, but had so far recovered as to be considered out of danger. She was apparently growing stronger each day, and was in the best of spirits over her recovery. Thusday (sic) morning the treachery of the disease was manifested by a second attack which proved fatal in less that twenty-four hours. Friends and neighbors were hastily summoned to bid farewell to one who such a short time before had seemed assured of a long and useful life. How oft are we reminded that "God loves a shining mark." None ever knew Kate Cox but loved her for her many womanly qualities and admired her true christian character, that left its impression upon every one with whom she came in contact. She was modest and unassuming, but ever ready in her quiet way to help the unfortunate, or, by kindly words, to smooth the rough places for the sad and lonely. Delia Catherine Bower was born in Round Prairie township (sic. in Jefferson county, Iowa) February 20th, 1870, and was the eldest child of B. F. and Ruth Bower. She was united in marriage with Frank Cox November 16th, 1892, and the moved to their present home in Cedar township. Young in years and possessed of a beautiful home and everything which goes to make life enjoyable it will ever remain one of the "hidden mysteries" why such are chosen here and there in this great world of innumerable souls among the sad and lonely. But she possessed more than worldly goods; she was endowed with the real riches "that like the wealth of the rose flings out its beauty and fragrance to every passerby." She was chosen early to join the countless throng, not helplessly but with a hope divine, for when eighteen years of age she was converted and joined the Methodist church at Glasgow, and her faith has been proved by her life. Herr husband, mother, four brothers and a sister mourn her untimely death. A host of friends and neighbor feel deeply, too, the loss the community has sustained. Sympathy, even though it seems little at such times, is felt for the husband whose home is robbed of all that makes life worth the living, and no one is so fully able to realize the fact as he who followed her to her last resting place Sunday afternoon in the Wright cemetery, where they placed her in a bed of flowers. Rev. Jonathan Lee, who united them in marriage nearly eleven years ago, conducted the funeral services and delivered a most excellent sermon from II Timothy, 1:10. One of the largest assemblies that this community ever witnessed was present to bid a last farewell to her who had so recently been one of us. A.B.F.P.
