Early Tuesday morning Mrs. Bruce Kline answered the final call and was taken to her eternal home. She had been in failing health for several years and although very effort was put forth to stay the hand of disease, professional knowledge and care did little for her. Two years ago she suffered an illness that left her afflicted to the extent that the only thing which could be done for her was to make her comfortable. Her husband, and son, Keith, and her two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Mabel Paige Kline and Mrs. Keith Kline, besides help outside of the family, have given every attention but her strength and vitality were not sufficient to overcome her ailment. She slept peacefully away, the end coming shortly after seven o’clock. Della May Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marshall, was born on the home farm, four miles west of town, March 4th, 1870, and died in her home in La Porte City, August 24th, 1932. She received her education in local schools and afterwards taught in rural districts for several years, meeting with unusual success in her chosen line of work. On July 16th, 1890 she was married to Bruce Kline and they established their home in La Porte City, where they have lived ever since. Three children were born into the Kline home, John V., on April 17th, 1891; Noma, the only daughter, on November 11th, 1896; Marshall Keith on November 22nd, 1903. Two of the children preceded their mother in death, Noma being taken on March 3rd, 1897, and John V., on October 26th, 1930. Mrs. Kline always took an active part in the church and social life of the community as long as her health permitted. Early in life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and was an active member and good worker, serving for five years as president of the Woman’s Missionary Society and holding other offices of trust and responsibility in various departments of the denomination. She was affiliated with the La Porte City temple Pythian Sisters and, until the last few years, had been a member of the two study clubs, the Literary Circle and the Tourist club, in both of which she held office and prepared papers and did other work much above the average. She was always generous in offering the use of her home for social affairs and in many other ways contributed her help to the organizations to which she belonged. Surviving with the bereaved husband and son are three grandchildren, Courtney Kline, Marshall Kline and Bruce Kline, and two sisters, Mrs. E.R. Ashley and Mrs. C.G. Woodley, all of whom live in La Porte City. One brother died in infancy and her father and mother died on May 2nd, 1911, and April 28th, 1924 respectively. The funeral service will be held in the Kline home, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock and will be conducted by Rev. C.D. James, pastor of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. W.F. Brecher, pastor of the Evangelical church. The musical numbers will be provided by Mrs. L.M. Ashley, Mrs. Roy E. Wagner and the Misses Faye Goodwin and Josephine Miller with Mrs. C.A. Brust as accompanist. The casket bearers will be L.J. Tutt, Roy E. Wagner, J.H. Goon, F.S. Garrabrant, Cecil Gates, and J.W. Stewart of Waterloo. Interment will be made in the family lot in West View. Mr. and Mrs. F.R. Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Matthews and son, Victor, Jr., of Kansas City, Mo., arrived early this morning to attend the funeral. Mrs. Bryant is a sister of Mr. Kline. Mrs. Jennie Kline McQuilkin, of Fort Dodge, is also expected to come. All places of business will be closed from 2:15 to 3:45 out of respect to the deceased and as a mark of sympathy to Mr. Kline who has been in business in La Porte City for forty-three years.
