He was raised largely under the influence of the Methodist church. In 1874 he moved to Texas, and in 1877 was baptized. The fall of the same year he taught school in Stephens County, Texas, where he met and married Miss Amy E. Butler, in 1880. He was raised largely under the influence of the Methodist church. In 1874 he moved to Texas, and in 1877 was baptized. The fall of the same year he taught school in Stephens County, Texas, where he met and married Miss Amy E. Butler, in 1880. In 1885 he moved to the Indian Territory where he practiced medicine, and subsequently engaged in the mercantile business. Becoming continually annoyed by the sectarians, he challenged a Baptist preacher to mee him in debate in 1888. The preacher refused, and Brother Cargile reviewed the teachings of the Baptists; which was his first work as a preacher. Preaching the gospel he labored in Florida as well as a number of other States. On three different occasions while in debate with Mormons his opponent has quit the debate, and he had the same experience while in debate with a Holiness man. He has done much work among those who had never heard the Gospel. His wife has been a true helpmeet. To them have been born 11 children, seven are now living. The fall of the same year he taught school in Stephens county, Texas, where he met and married Miss Army Butler in 1880. In 1885 he moved to Indian territory where he practiced medicine and subsequently engaged 1n the mercantile business. The preacher refused and Brother Cargile reviewed the teachings of the Baptists, which was his first work as a preacher preaching the gospel. CARGILE-I was called to Lathrop, California, to conduct the funeral of Dellimore B. Cargile on March 5, 1938. Brother Cargile was born in Arkansas May 24, 1855, and died March 1, 1938; hence he was almost 83 years of age. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Amy Cargile, of Lathrop, and the following sons and a daughter: V.I., A.B. and W.C. Cargile, of Texas; Q.E., D.D., W.P. Cargile. all of California; and Mrs. L.H. Brockman, Lathrop, California. Brother and Sister Cargile had been married 55 years and for 48 years he had been a gospel preacher. He preached in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, California, and possibly other states. He lived a long and useful life and came to his "grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season." He was a good husband, a kind father and a faithful preacher of the Word. He fought a good fight, he finished his earthly course and he kept the faith; hence I am sure "a crown of righteousness" awaits him on the other side.
