"DE" Gantz Jr., 84, of Holton, KS passed away on January 28, 2004, at his son and daughter-in-law's home in Reserve, KS. He was born July 17, 1919, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of DeLloyd E. and Laura Isaacs Gantz. "DE" Gantz Jr., 84, of Holton, KS passed away on January 28, 2004, at his son and daughter-in-law's home in Reserve, KS. He was born July 17, 1919, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of DeLloyd E. and Laura Isaacs Gantz. He graduated from Holton High School in 1937 and moved to Yellowstone National Park where he was employed until 1940. He served in the U.S. Army, Pacific Theatre, during World War II. Mr. Gantz worked for Western Electric Company as an installer and engineer through various levels of management from 1940 to 1974, at various locations including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and company headquarters in New York City. He retired in 1974 as engineering manager of the Pacific Region, serving the Bell System operating companies in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. After retirement, he served as a Volunteer Consultant and Wilderness Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service in California for four years. He moved back to Holton in 1979 and became very active in four major community projects: the four-lane highway from Topeka to Holton, the Holton Industrial Park, Banner Creek Reservoir and the new Holton Community Hospital. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Holton and was an elder at the church. He had served as a member of the Presbyterian Council of Northern Kansas. He also had served on the Multi-County Board of NEK-CAP and the Holton Hospital Board. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Holton Rotary Club, a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, past President of Holton Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of the VFW. He married Rose A. Bennett on February 7, 1941. She passed away on January 23, 2001. Survivors include two sons, David E. Gantz, Reserve, KS, and Robert J. Gantz, Helena, MT; two sisters, Charlene Gibson, Dewey, OK, and Elizabeth Ann Saubers, Passaic, MO; a brother, Ray Gantz, Holton; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 31, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church in Holton. Burial was in Holton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 1101 W. Fourth, Holton, KS 66436. Holton Recorder Feb 2004
