Description	:	Del was the second of four children born at home to Cosmo & Lora Chase and he was known as Delmar until many years later. His middle name was in honor of great-grandfather Caleb Zicafoose. He grew up on a small family farm on Muddy Creek Mountain where he developed a great love for agriculture, and especially for animal husbandry. Read More	Del was the second of four children born at home to Cosmo & Lora Chase and he was known as Delmar until many years later. His middle name was in honor of great-grandfather Caleb Zicafoose. He grew up on a small family farm on Muddy Creek Mountain where he developed a great love for agriculture, and especially for animal husbandry. He attended Fry Elementary School, about a mile from his home, through the 8th grade. He then attended Lewisburg High School and graduated in 1951. During his youth he was active in 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and other religious, educational, and agricultural organizations. He attended Jane’s Chapel Methodist Church (the school and the church both having been named for his late great-aunt, Jane Hedrick Fry) and was a faithful student of the Bible. After high school, he enrolled in West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV where he majored in agriculture. He worked his way through school financially, principally by means of work on the WVU Poultry Farm where he lived in a small house trailer. He also headed a small team of fellow students who made and sold sandwiches and cartons of milk in the evening in the men's dormitory. While at WVU, he was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps and upon graduation was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. He then went to Fort Sill, Oklahoma to the field artillery officer's basic course. Upon graduation, he became an instructor at the school. While assigned to Fort Sill, he met and married special-education teacher Janet Bowen from Chickasha, OK. They were born on the same day and married on their birthday. Del’s brother and sister traveled from WV to OK by Greyhound Bus to take part in the wedding. Upon leaving the Army, Del became a manager trainee with the Kroger Company. Upon completion he served as manager at a number of stores, and was known as a manager who could turn around stores in decline. He later moved on to first one and then a second regional grocery chain. His career as a store manager included stores in AL, TN, and KY. During this time, three sons were born into the Chase family. In the 1970s Del and family relocated to his hometown where he opened his own independent grocery store while also taking over management of the Chase farm on Muddy Creek Mountain. He later left the grocery business and became a district supervisor of WV Rehabilitation Services. During most of his years in Lewisburg he and Janet were contracted to provide meals for entertainers at the State Fair of WV. In this capacity, they met just about every country music star in the business. After Jan passed away in 2000, Del married Olive Thompson on Oct 13, 2002 in a ceremony at Jane's Chapel Church conducted by his son, Rev. Tim Chase. Del passed away in 2006 after a brief illness. Throughout his adult life, Del was a faithful member of various Methodist and Baptist churches, serving as Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, and in other positions. He also served in leadership positions for various youth organizations to include the Boy Scouts, was active in local politics, and was a member of service organizations to include the Lions Club.
