Read More	Courtesy of, Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home: Delmar (Del) Jerry Klundt passed away at his home in Las Vegas, NV, on February 1, 2014 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle against cancer and diabetes. He was born May 7, 1938 in Burke to Leon and Louise Klundt. He grew up on a farm southwest of Herrick and attended a rural school in that area. After graduating from high school at Burke in 1956 he continued his education with four years of college at Southern State Teacher's College at Springfield. While in college he served in the South Dakota National Guard and was discharged in 1963. It was also during this time he met his future wife, Jane. Between his junior and senior years of college and after graduation he worked summers for the U.S. Forest Service in St. Regis, MT. He worked as a firefighter and general forest service duties. He then moved to Missoula, MT and graduated with a master's degree in education administration from the University of Montana. Their adventure continued on to Olds, Alberta in Canada where Del taught secondary math. They moved to Spring Grove, MN where he was the elementary principal and from there to Montgomery, MN as elementary principal. He continued his education at Mankato State University in Mankato, MN where he graduated with a specialist degree in education administration. He then accepted the position of superintendent of schools in Cleveland, MN. He was selected to serve in the prestigious Bush Public Schools Executive Fellows Program. Del spent a total of 33 years in education, 26 of which were in administration. After retiring from school administration he moved to Winnemucca, NV, then Brookings where Del worked as the finance manager for the city of Aurora for seven years before retiring in Las Vegas, NV. Del was an active member in the communities where he resided, and served in various organizations including a life member of the National Education Association, National Association of Elementary School Principals, Minnesota and American Associations of School Administrators, MASA Board of Directors representing Region IV, Minnesota Valley Education District Board of Directors, Commander of the Cleveland American Legion Club, President of Montgomery JC's, and Board of Directors at Shoreland Country Club in St. Peter, MN. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane; two sons, Mark (Vicki) of Allendale, MI, and Michael (Tiesha) of Paimdale, CA; five grandchildren: Cameron, Kayla, Alyssa, Michaela, and Tanner; a brother, David Klundt and his wife, Sharon of Mt.Vernon, SD; and a sister, Mavis Potter and her husband, Jim of Sturgis, SD; sister in law Ruth Klundt of Kadoka, SD and brothers in law Brad Baker of Idaho Falls, ID, Dan and Joyce Hessman of Bismark, ND, and Terry and Joleen Hessman of Sioux Falls, SD, and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Lyle Klundt and a sister Alice Baker. The family has most recently lost Alyssa, one of Del's beloved granddaughters.
