Mavis, 88, of Leeds, formerly of York, was held Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lebanon Free Lutheran Church in Leeds. Interment was in the York Cemetery. He died Oct. 5, 1999 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Pastor Mark Antal officiated. Pallbearers were Harold Halvorson, Greg & Gary A. Mavis, Victor, Ricky, Wesley & Randy Anderson, Lyle Leibfried & Gary Loghry. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. Delos Everett Mavis was born May 26, 1911 in Buckeye, Ohio to Clyde & Jennie Romanus Mavis. He was raised & educated in York. He farmed in Hurricane Lake Township near York & retired in 1979 after nearly 40 years. In November of 1935 he married Lorraine Follman. She died in Auguast of 1979. He married Wilma Anderson in March of 1980 & they lived in Leeds until his death. He was a member & former deacon of the Lebanon Free Lutheran Church in Leeds. He was also a member of Sam's Motorhome Travel Club. Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Leeds; a son, Gary Mavis of Redwood City, Calif.; 4 daughters & 2 sons-in-law, Jewel & Richard Anderson of Leeds, Karen Loghry of Casper, Wyo., Sandra & Ted Nelson of Fremont, Calif. & Marti Mavis of Las Gatos, Calif.; a stepson, Wesley Anderson of Joshua, Tex.; 2 stepdaughters, Jean & Guy Wyman of Murfreesboro, Tenn. & Sandra Stevens of Forsyth, Maont.; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; & a great-great-grandchild.
