Hobart, 91, Iola, Kansas, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas. She was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Humboldt, Kansas, to Dave and Inez (Moore) Woods. She was raised in Humboldt. She married Dale D. Hobart on Aug. 26, 1934, in Carthage, Missouri. He died on June 19, 2006. The Hobarts lived in Garnett, Petrolia and Welda before settling on farms in rural Humboldt. Besides farming, the Hobarts built, owned and operated D&D Speedway of Humboldt for about 25 years. She was a member of an Extension Homemaker's Unit west of Humboldt. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Vella and Gary K. Lower, Iola, KS; a daughter-in-law, Judy Schroeder, Topeka, KS; five grandchildren, Deborah Lower Hegwald, Omaha, NE, Gary E. Lower and his wife Shannon, Iola, KS, James D. Hobart and Carolyn Sandmeyer, both of Topeka, KS, and Paula Lowe, Kansas City, KS; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James L. Hobart, in 1986; twin brothers, Harvey and Harlan Woods; and an infant sister. Graveside services will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate. Contributions suggested to Allen County Healthcare Foundation (Hospice)or Iola's Alzheimer's Support Group.
