Description	:	Mr. Denmar "Denny" Stephen Sheppard, formerly of Red Deer, beloved husband of Mrs. Hazel Sheppard, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Read More	Mr. Denmar "Denny" Stephen Sheppard, formerly of Red Deer, beloved husband of Mrs. Hazel Sheppard, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Denny was born November 10, 1914 in Nebraska and came to Alberta with his parents in 1918. He was raised on a farm at Morningside and attended school at Pleasant Hill. Denny started work at the Alberta Hospital Ponoka in the 1930's and it was in July of 1940 that he married Hazel Purnell. Later, Denny worked at the Bowden Airport and then joined the R.C.N.V.R. He was discharged in March of 1946 and then moved to Eckville to work in the farm equipment business. In 1959, Denny and Hazel moved to Red Deer where he operated a service station until his retirement in 1979. During retirement, Denny and Hazel loved to travel and one of the most memorable vacations was in 1980 when they went across Canada in their motor home in 100 days. During the winter months, they enjoyed the warmer climate of Arizona. Denny is survived by his loving wife, Hazel, one son, Douglas (Elaine) Sheppard of Calgary; one daughter, Carol (Vello) Kass of Newton, Kansas; six grand-children, Kadre (Gary) Sneddon of St. Johns, Kersti Kass of Charlottetown, Todd (Christine) Sheppard of Calgary, Angela (Gerard) Dower of Lethbridge, Andrew Sheppard of Calgary and Matthew Sheppard of Calgary and nine great grandchildren. Denny's memory will also be cherished by his two brothers, Lloyd (Marion) of Edmonton and Ross (Alma) of Ponoka and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Denny was predeceased by his mother and father; three brothers Bill, Rex and Wayne and his sister, Phyllis. A Memorial Service will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church 4718 – 50 St.(Ross Street) Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. A private family interment will take place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Ponoka, Alberta prior to the memorial service.
