Description	:	Dennis D. McAlpin, son of Willie E. and Amanda (Weaver) McAlpin, was born near New Market, Iowa January 10, 1895 and passed away July 21, 1981 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital at the age of 86 years. He attended the rural school near his home and at an early age, decided farming was to be his life vocation. Such was a natural for him as he was a great lover of the outdoors. McAlpin, son of Willie E. and Amanda (Weaver) McAlpin, was born near New Market, Iowa January 10, 1895 and passed away July 21, 1981 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital at the age of 86 years. He attended the rural school near his home and at an early age, decided farming was to be his life vocation. Such was a natural for him as he was a great lover of the outdoors. He never tired of planting, tending and harvesting the crops and caring for livestock, and just viewing the beauties of nature in so doing he built a physique that seemingly resisted the ravages of illness and enabled him to be up and around until the end. In 1915 he was married to Eva Lena Combs. Two sons were born to them, Gerald E. and C. Alvin. Following her death in 1922,he was married to Bessie Lyles in 1924 and two girls were born to them, Pauline and Shirley. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his son Alvin, two brothers, Earl and Russell, half brother Eugene, and two sisters, Nettie Werts and Glocile Anderson. Surviving are the wife of the home, son, Gerald and his wife, Jean, daughters Pauline and husband, Marvin Ellison and Shirley and husband, Verlin Larson, daughter-in-law Vaugh McAlpin Johnson, two sisters, Agatha Slaight and Mrs Albert Holland of New Market, two half-sisters, Mrs Floyd Dougherty of Chula, Mo and Mrs Marshall Brabson of Deming, N.M., two sisters-in-law Hazel McAlpin and Maxine McAlpin of Clarinda; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and a large circle of friends. When a young man Dennis was baptized at the New Market Church of Christ and remained a member there throughout his life. He was a 63-year member of the Odd Fellow Lodge at New Market. Dennis and Bessie had lived all of their 57 years of married life on the same farm and while being confined to the home for the past year he had enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and other relatives as well as neighbors and friends. He will be missed by all. Funeral services were held July 23 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with pastors, Jon Palmquist of New Market and Mike McCutcheon of Boone officiating. Jim McAlpin was soloist and Doris Damewood, organist. Casket bearers were Randy, Tim, and Mark Larson, Gary McAlpin, Terry Pratt, Martin Ellison and Jon Hibbs. Honorary bearers were Weldon Jones, Robert Malcom, Dick Burton, Larry Eighmy, Jim Huseman, Duane Wise, Clyde Long, Ivan Burwell and Wayne Ellison. Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jul 30, 1981 Dennis D. McAlpin, 86, of New Market died Tuesday morning at Clarinda Municipal Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was born Jan 10, 1895, near New Market, the son of Willie Eugene and Amanda Weaver McAlpin. He was a life long farmer. On April 5, 1924, he was married to Bessie Lyles who survives. Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by three children: Gerald E. McAlpin of Essex, Mrs Marvin (Pauline) Ellison, Clarinda and Mrs Verlin (Shirley) Larson, New Market. There are 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Sisters are Mrs Agatha Slaight and Mrs Albert (Ruby) Holland of New Market. Half sisters are Mrs Floyd (Susanna) Dougherty, Chula, Mo, and Mrs Marshall (Norma Jean) Brabson, Deming, N.M. He was preceded in death by a son Carmen Alvin McAlpin. Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Jon Palmquist and Mike McCutcheon officiating. Jim McAlpin was soloist and Doris Damewood organist.
