Description	:	Services were held at West Prairie Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 28 for Dennis Poppens, 68, who died suddenly in front of his bakery on Main Street in Lennox on Monday, June 23, 2008. Officiating during the service was the Rev. Erika Lehmann and Rev. Nancy Hong. Helen Sweeter was organist. David Fergen sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "On Eagles Wings". Dennis LeRoy Poppens was born in Lennox, South Dakota on July 12, 1939, the son of Arnold and Matilda (Brinkmeier) Poppens. He grew up north of Chancellor and graduated from Chancellor High School in 1957. He was married to Donna Fischer on May 4, 1962 in Parkston. They farmed south of Lennox for five years and then moved to Sioux Falls. He had been a truck driver for REA Express and then became a self-employed truck driver. On Feb. 26, 2000 he was united in marriage to Judy Bernhard at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lennox. They lived in Lennox their entire married life. This past year they purchased the Lennox Bakery, which they were presently operating. Dennis was a member of West Prairie Lutheran Church; Lennox Lions Club and served as Cubmaster for the Worthing Cub Scouts. He enjoyed automobile races and attended them whenever he could. He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 8, 1984 and his mother on Feb. 12, 2007. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Judy; four children: David Poppens, at home in Lennox, Doug Poppens and his wife, Nancy, of North Branch, MN, Darla Builis and her husband, Todd, of Tempe, AZ and Diane Nynas of St. Michael, MN; five grandchildren: Justin, Alyssa, Nathan, T.J. and Chase; one brother: Wayne Poppens and his wife, Yvonne, of Larchwood, Iowa; plus his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
