He died Thursday, Feb. 11 1999, at his home. Dewey Thomas Ewing Jr. was born March 30, 1923, to Dewey Sr. and Hettie (Michels) Ewing at Turton. In 1934 the family moved south of Doland where they farmed. He attended school in Doland and graduated in 1942. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in World War II until he was discharged in 1946. He married Arlene Harford of Redfield on Sept. 25, 1947. They farmed southeast of Doland. In 1953 they moved to Hill City, where he worked painting and drywalling. They lived in Pierre before moving to Omaha in 1970. He worked for Omaha Housing. She died in 1972. He continued to live in Omaha. He married Rachel Haueisen in 1974. She died in 1997. He was a member of the Benson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2503 of Omaha. Survivors include two daughters, Kandyce Kay Blankartz of Glenham, Sandra Jean (Gary) Arnburg of West Des Moines, Iowa; one sister Gwyneth Jarret of Suisun City, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by both wives and one brother. Casketbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Note: his second wife was Rachel Miller, born 06 Aug 1908 in Traer, Decatur Co., KS, daughter of James and Sadie Miller. She had married firstly to William Carl Haueisen who died in Oct. 1969. She died 23 Apr 1997 and per her wishes there was no burial, her body being transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
