At the age of 2 he came to Nebraska with his parents and remained in Nebraska until his death. At the age of 2 he came to Nebraska with his parents and remained in Nebraska until his death. He was married to Bessie Ericson February 5, 1908 and to them were born three children: Russell, who lives at Fremont, NE, Erville, living at Tekamah, NE, and Eileen, Mrs. Loren Goodwater, of Albion. There are five grandchildren. Besides his wife, Bessie, his children and grandchildren, he leaves three sisters: Mrs. Ella Thomas of Columbus, Miss Margaret Hughes, and Mrs. Bessie Hagamen of Denver, CO., and one brother, Stanley of Monroe. One brother, Hayden, preceded him in death. Dewey, as he was commonly called, led an active life as a farmer until 12 years ago when he moved into St. Edward. Since then he worked many years for the city of St. Edward as caretaker of the city park. Two years ago he retired. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Methodist church and of the Men's Sunday School class. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bessire Thursday afternoon, January 24, 1957, from the Methodist church.
