Hillsville, July 1 – Dexter Goad, 73, Carroll County commonwealth's attorney for the past four years, clerk of the county circuit court from 1906 to 1920 and former member of the Virginia house of delegates, died unexpectedly at his home here this afternoon. Hillsville, July 1 – Dexter Goad, 73, Carroll County commonwealth's attorney for the past four years, clerk of the county circuit court from 1906 to 1920 and former member of the Virginia house of delegates, died unexpectedly at his home here this afternoon. Death was the result of a heart attack. Goad, long prominent in Carroll political circles, served one term in the house of delegates around the turn of the century. In 1906 he was elected clerk of the county court for a six-year term and in 1912 reelected to the same office for eight years. Later he practiced law here and in 1935 was elected commonwealth attorney. County Republicans had nominated him to succeed himself in the fall election. Surviving are the following children: Byrum P., Hillsville attorney; Dr. G. M. Goad, Hillsville; Dr. Ted Goad, Muscatine, Iowa; Dr. Tucker Goad, Roanoke; Mr. George Adams, Washington D.C.; Miss Jezebel Goad, Hillsville; and Miss Martha Goad, Muscatine, Iowa. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Hillsville Methodist church with interment in the local cemetery. Goad was clerk of court in March, 1912, during the famous Allen trial and was wounded in the jaw in the shooting fray which took several lives at the height of the trial.
