Description	:	Diana Deming was born in Connecticut on 14 Jan 1785 (date calculated from headstone). From the research of Rebecca Rogers, we believe her father was Phineas Deming of Woodbury, Connecticut. She married Thomas Lewis of Barkhamsted, CT, on 5 March 1817 in Vienna, Trumbull, Ohio where husband Thomas made his living as a clock merchant. The couple started a family, living in Vienna until the 1840 US Census shows them in Lick, Jackson, Ohio, where Diane's sons met their future wives. She married Thomas Lewis of Barkhamsted, CT, on 5 March 1817 in Vienna, Trumbull, Ohio where husband Thomas made his living as a clock merchant. The couple started a family, living in Vienna until the 1840 US Census shows them in Lick, Jackson, Ohio, where Diane's sons met their future wives. By 1842, Diane and Thomas had migrated to Iowa and in 5 years had settled in Farmington, Van Buren, IA, where they lived out their lives. Diana & Thomas had a daughter in Vienna. We don't know her name. But she appears on census records until the move to Iowa. Their sons and families joined Diane & Thomas in or near Farmington, Iowa. All were farmers. Diana passed on 28 June 1861 in Farmington, and is buried in the Alfrey Cemetery located at the back edge of her son, Rodman's farm in Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa. Diane was survived by husband Thomas (who lives w his family another 19 years), sons Rodman of Farmington, Justus of Harrison, Lee, Iowa, and ten grandchildren. *A new discovery (now in the possession of The Daughters of the American Revolution) documents details of Diana Deming's life in Vienna, Iowa with her husband Thomas Lewis. A Connecticut woman, Slyvia Lewis Taylor (half-cousin to Thomas) wrote a diary of her journey w her husband from their home in Connecticut to the Ohio Frontier (Western Reserve). Her account documents her daily life in Vienna including many activities w Diane and Thomas Lewis; for instance visiting and making clothes for neighbors and friend Diana Lewis' daughter (girl unnamed). So we must consider that the puzzling census records of Vienna and Lick, Ohio now are much less so. The older girl in the household is the Lewis' eldest child. Rodman, Abner and Justus are the other young boys, and in Vienna, a 20-something man is likely an employee in the clock factory that Thomas owns and operates with his wife's father Phineas Deming.
