Description	:	Thomas (Jr) b. 1795, was the second son of Thomas & Abigail (Holiburt) Lewis of New Hartford, Connecticut. Census records show that by 1808 his father moved the family from Connecticut to New York. This move was mentioned in Hartford community records as well. Thomas’s grandson records show that Thomas and Diana’s 1st child, Rodman, was born 1821 in Trumbull, Ohio. Crookham’s daughters and an Alderman girl. In 1842 Thomas, Diana and the boys have moved to Lee County, Iowa. Four years later Thomas & Diana are living in Van Buren County, Iowa. By 1852 Thomas & Diana live in Farmington, Iowa where their sons Rodman and Justus build farms. Thomas’s wife dies in 1861. By 1870 census, widowed Thomas is living with son, Rodman, and his family where hs lives until death in 1880. Thomas is buried in Alfray Cemetery in Farmington, Van Burien, Iowa. Home in 1880: Farmington, Van Buren Cty, Iowa Widower Added 30 June 2019: I was at this cemetery yesterday. It is located adjacent and ten yards NE of the Rodman Lewis farm (presently owned by the Mills family). While in a beautiful, rural setting, his cemetery is abandoned, damaged, and badly abused. A local tale is that in the 1960s an uninformed farmer mistakenly plowed the cemetery, destroying the majority of graves. And this plowing event is easy to see, appearing as a 'highway' right down the middle of the burial field. No headstones remain in this plowed strip. Several remain around the perimeter of the cemetery and among the trees which have grown up in the middle. Prominent is Phillip Alfrey, the donor of land for the Alfrey cemetery. Behind Alfrey are the Lewis family. But except for the Lewis obelisk jutting from the ground, the headstones of Diana, Mary, Elizabeth, Thomas, Walter & Lillie are covered by shrubs and chest-high, fully-wild prairie grass. Two unreadable headstones stand at the perimeter end of the Alfrey & Lewis area. Five other headstones, one readable, are barely visible across from the plowed cemetery center. The person who said he mows the cemetery once or twice a year said most have remaining headstones have toppled in the field. The local tale is that years ago a work crew was up there clearing fallen branches & trees. They 'threw away many wooden planks' found 'laying around'.
