Aikin occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bradley, Friday evening, in Montezuma. Her last illness was of short duration having been confined to her bed only since the Sunday preceding her death. She had been feeling the weight of years for some time, however, but during the summer months was able to be about the house and yard and a few months ago visited a daughter in Oskaloosa. Dianna Dorward was born Nov. 1, 1829 in Summerset, Penn., and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bradley, Jan. 5, 1912, aged 82 yrs., 2 months and 4 days. She came west to Ohio with her parents when quite young and settled near Delaware of that state. She was married to Dr. S.A. Aikin in 1850 and in company with their parents drove across the country to Iowa and located in Marion county near Pella. Nine children were born to this union and all are living except the oldest daughter Ellen who died one year ago. Mrs. Aikin was converted when quite young and united with the Baptist church and remained a consistent member until her death. With her companion who was also a member, they were faithful workers for the interest of the Baptist church and also for the Central University located at Pella, Iowa. After the death of her husband who passed away at Leighton, Iowa, in the year 1880, she continued to live in the old home until her health compelled her to make a change and for a number of years has made her home with her children, being for about the last year and a half at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bradley. Out of a family of eight children, Mrs Aikin is survived by only one sister, Mrs. Sarah Wentz, who resides in Delaware, Ohio. Others to mourn her loss are four sons and four daughters, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The children are: John F, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. J.W. Jarnagin, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Cyrus, of Joplin, Mo.; Chas. F., of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mrs. A.D. Brown, of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Belle Montgomery, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Jesse, of Shannon City, Iowa; Mrs. John Bradley, of Montezuma, Iowa. All of the children were present at the funeral with exception of two, who were unable to reach here on account of the extreme cold and sickness. The funeral service was held from the John Bradley home, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. H.F. Gilbert. Interment took place in the Montezuma cemetery, but later will be removed to the Van Donselaar cemetery east of Pella where her husband was buried. — Montezuma Republican.
