Dillard was a loyal member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retiree of the Martinsville DuPont plant. During World War II he served in the Navy in the South Pacific and after the war kept in touch with many of his former shipmates. Dillard's interests over the years were varied and included playing baseball, golfing, gospel singing, and attending Navy reunions. Survivors include his daughter, Dawn, and husband, Ron, of Ventura, California; son, David and wife, Deborah, of Davenport, Iowa; son, Dana Mark and wife, Tanya, of Eden; and son, Derrick and wife, Ursula, of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren, Alex and Chris Shropshire of Davenport, Iowa, Cory Shropshire of Ruffin, NC, Erin Shropshire of Eden and Dylan Shropshire of Lexington, SC; sister, Vera and husband, Tony, of Springfield, FL; sisters, Ruth Dattero and Rebecca Shropshire of Eden; brothers, Jerry Shropshire of Danville, VA, and Joseph of Eden; and several nieces and nephews.
