She was looking forward to celebrating her 90th birthday in a few short months. "Theo" as her family and close friends called her was born on Sept 15, 1916, in Konawa, OK, to Claud and Edna Anderson. The family then moved to Choctaw, OK outside of Oklahoma City where she was the first of 4 children growing up on a 160 acre farm. Theo graduated from Choctaw HS in 1935, and went on to attend Brown's Business College. Life in the early 1900's was not easy. The dust bowl and then the depression forced the Anderson family to migrate annually to the Pacific Northwest for the apple harvest starting in1936. In the early years of WWII, Theo lived in Seattle and worked in a Boeing airplane assembly plant. She married James A. Childress in 1942, and her first of 4 children were born in 1943. The Anderson clan made the trek to the Wenatchee Valley several years until in 1944, they decided to purchase land and settle permanently. Theo and Jim purchased their homestead on Western Ave in 1946, where they both lived the rest of their lives. After her husband passed on in 1972, Theo continued to raise her family on the homestead where they had built several rental houses and planted a cherry orchard. In 1952, Theo joined the First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the congregation loyal in attendance and witnessing her christianity by example and thru her good nature and kind heart. She always encouraged her own children as well as others to attend church activities. Theo was an extremely hard worker. She was a caregiver to her siblings in her own youth, to her elderly mother in her later years, and to any child or adult that crossed her path and needed help. She had an incredibly soft heart, the "patience of Job" and naturally sweet and quiet reverence about her. She was dedicated to her family, yet always willing to offer a helping hand to others in time of need. She was the keeper of her family's heritage and saved pictures and heirlooms from several generations with the intent of seeing them passed down to several more. She was proud of her family ties and faithfully kept in touch with relatives near and afar. She was currently heading up the Anderson Reunion which has been an Annual Wenatchee tradition for over 50 years. Her presence will be missed not only by her children, and siblings, but by her extended church family and others that knew her. Theo is preceded in death by her husband James A., her first born child, Dwight J., and one brother Woodrow Anderson. She is survived by her two sons Ronald E. and Wesley M. Childress, both of Wenatchee, one daughter Donna G. Longacre of Longview, WA., her sister Dorothy Gager of Seattle, a brother, Gene Anderson of Wenatchee, as well as 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church of Wenatchee, 1301 Maple St. Wenatchee, WA. 98801
