Mrs. Irick was born June 3, 1920, in Branchville, the daughter of the late Henry H. Hughes Sr. and the late Betty Connelly Hughes. She was educated in the Rowesville public school system. At an early age she joined Crosland Baptist Church in Rowesville. She served as a faithful member until July of 1946 when she transferred her letter of membership to First Baptist Church of Orangeburg where she has remained a member for the past 62 years. In earlier years she was active with the Cradle Roll, teaching Sunday school, and youth ministry within the church. Mrs. Irick retired from Wannamaker Drug Company after 27 years of employment. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family as well as working in her beloved yard. She was a charter member of the Orangeburg Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, Drove No. 237 for 31 years. She held several officer positions within the organization. She was a member and past president of the Orangeburg Ladies Fireman's Auxiliary. She was the widow of Charlie Irick Jr., and was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Ann Lee; five sisters, Blanche Hughes Irick, Alice Hughes Boone, Ann Hughes Brazier, Lurleen Hughes Ashe, and Viola Hughes and by three brothers, Norman V. Hughes, Henry H. Hughes Jr. and Rob Hughes. Survivors include five generations, one daughter, Mrs. Delano (Carol) Driggers of Orangeburg; son-in-law, Ed Lee of Eutawville; grandchildren, Charles E. Lee Jr. (Debra) of Charleston, Jay T. Lee (Crystal) of Beaufort, Mrs. Donald (Angie) Zeigler of Orangeburg; great-grandchildren, Brandy A. Roberson (Thomas M. Gibson) of Springfield, Candice R. Phillips of North, Jammie D. Zeigler (Jonathan D. Bozard) of Orangeburg; Donald H. Zeigler II of Orangeburg, Melody A. Lee, Kayla Asbury and Jade Asbury all of Beaufort, Laura and Tara Black, both of Charleston; great-great grandchildren, Hailey M. Phillips, and Jaden R. Bozard. Special friends include, Susan Fields and Cora Watford, both of Orangeburg, Bud Porth of St. Matthews, Jo Browning of Barnwell and First Baptist Pastoral Care Ministry and her caregivers; Patricia Gilbert and Minnie Lou Scott.
