She was born the 5th of 8 children on December 22, 1928 to John Harvey and May Rosa (Hill) Luscombe in Horton, Kansas. She was born the 5th of 8 children on December 22, 1928 to John Harvey and May Rosa (Hill) Luscombe in Horton, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Cole, her parents John and May Luscombe, and siblings Anna Marie, Paul Clayton, Elizabeth Ruth (Hardy), William Oral, Virginia May (Newman), Maurice Lee and Martha Lou (Salts) Dolly attended schools in the Denison area and graduated in 1946 from Silver Lake High School. She was employed at The Jolly Café in Topeka, and later at Bell Telephone Company as an operator. She was an Avon Representative for many years, and was employed by JC Penney until her retirement in 1996. Friends introduced her to Lawrence Elbert Cole and they married on May 16, 1948 at the First Methodist Church of Topeka. After honeymooning in California, they lived on their farms in Richland then Overbrook, Kansas. In 1958 the family moved to Topeka until 1970 when they returned to the Berryton community. After Lawrence died on April 12, 2004 she then lived in Topeka near family. Dolly is survived by her daughters; Martha Ann Carter and her husband Dennis, Karen Jean Sewell and her husband Thomas, Susan Marie Berry, Judy Lee Cole, and Jennifer Gail Cole, grandchildren; Eric J, (Christin), Ross (Tamisha) and Arthur, Amy and Christopher, Kyle, Eric L and Kimberly (John), Cole and Sandra, great-grandchildren; Kc, Nita and Danielle, Jaxon, Camren and Quincy, Shane, Gus and Wade, and great-great-grandchild; Giselle. Also surviving is her brother-in-law; Leland Salts, her sister-in-law; Garnetta Luscombe, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dolly was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ruth/Rebekah Circle. She was also a member of the Berryton Kiwanis Club and the J.C. Penney Retiree’s Club. She enjoyed holidays and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dolly will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dolly’s honor can be made to the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd., Berryton, Kansas 66409 or the Kiwanis Club of Berryton Foundation, Inc. c/o the Berryton United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
