Dolores was born September 26, 1931 in Melcher, Iowa to William and Elizabeth Turner Russell. She grew up in Dallas, Iowa and graduated from Dallas High School in 1949. She was an aggressive basketball player; so much so she would foul out regularly, then finish the rest of the game as a cheerleader. Dolores was united in marriage to Raymond H. Milburn on August 12, 1949. They made their home in Dallas and were blessed with two sons: Johnny Ray and William. Family was extremely important to Dolores. She especially enjoyed visiting her family in Michigan. She was fortunate to visit England and get to know extended family that then came to Iowa to visit twice. She was proud of her English and Wesleyan Heritage. Dolores directed and participated in many Community Variety Shows. She loved music, always challenging herself to keep learning. She taught piano and guitar for many years. She kept in touch with current music to have something in common with her grandchildren. Dolores took several college classes, was an avid reader, and closely followed politics and world affairs. Dolores was on the Melcher-Dallas Board of Adjustments for several years. Dolores took her faith seriously and joyfully. As a person of the church she was a mystic, a lifelong learner, a capable theologian, a person of prayer, and enjoyed walking the path with others. She was an accomplished musician and played the piano at New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas for services, weddings, and funerals. She volunteered for almost every committee, sat on the Administrative Council Chair and the Pastor Parish Relations Board. Dolores also taught both children and adult Sunday School. She enjoyed her friends at the 8:30 service at the Indianola First United Methodist Church. Dolores was also able to travel to Singapore to attend the World Methodist Conference. She also volunteered at Hawthorne Hill and especially enjoyed her work with E.S.L. (English as Second Language). Dolores passed away at home on Saturday, March 18, 2017. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Milburn; her children: John (Madonna) Milburn and William “Bill” Milburn; two grandchildren: Johnny Ray (LaShana) Milburn of Melcher-Dallas and Michelle (Brandi Miller) Milburn of Mission, KS; three great grandchildren: Zachary Moore, Elizabeth Milburn, and Johnny Ray Milburn III. Along with her brother, Jim (Lila) Russell; friends: Rev. Kay Hooper, Delores Teas, and Betty Willoughby and families; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Her parents: William and Elizabeth Russell; and niece, Debbie Russell preceded her in death.
