Description	:	Services for Raymond "Hoogie" Milburn, 92, of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Melcher-Dallas. Memorials may be made in care of Raymond's family to be designated at a later date. Raymond H. Milburn was born on April 15, 1929, in Lockman, Iowa to Abe and Eliza (Selby) Milburn. He and his family moved to Dallas when he was young. He attended Dallas High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Ray and Dolores met in high school and were married August 12, 1949. They made their home in Dallas and were blessed with two sons: Johnny Ray and William Craig. Ray had a strong work ethic. He worked briefly at John Deere before starting his career at Firestone. He worked at Firestone as a member of the Local 310 for 38 years. Even after retiring from Firestone, Ray worked for the city of Melcher Dallas for 10 years. Ray had a series of 5-year plans after retirement, which lasted 34 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, golf, and fishing. He was proud of his garden and small orchard often experimenting with grafting. He often went to the casino and met up with friends, but he also enjoyed a quiet nap under a tree with his best dog, Rusty. Ray coached his own sons' little league teams and was a regular spectator at the grandchildren's events. He enjoyed watching them through the years. He loved his family, and his children and grandchildren meant so much to him. He even had a love for Bill's dogs like his own, often taking them for rides in the truck and stopping for ice cream. Ray had a great sense of humor, often the instigator and teasing others. He also found humor in himself. When asked how he lost his hearing aids he said, "Just lucky I guess". He loved being able to get away with things, which only made him more fun to be around, especially for the kids. Ray will be greatly missed by his children: John Milburn and William "Bill" Milburn; two grandchildren: Johnny Ray (LaShana) Milburn Jr of Melcher-Dallas and Michelle (Brandi Miller) Milburn of Mission, KS; three great grandchildren: Zach (Kortney) Moore, Elizabeth Milburn, and Johnny Ray Milburn III; great great granddaughter, Everly; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; daughter-in-law, Madonna; and siblings: Bill, John, Clara Belle, and Maxine.
