Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence. Mr. Lawhon was born in Florence County, a son of the late Hallie Landon and Minnie Purvis Lawhon. He was a member of the Elim Baptist Church, was a past Deacon, was a member of the Joy Club and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He was a retired farmer and a carpenter and retired in 1985 from E.S.A.B. of Florence. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his two sisters, Margie Bacot and Lalla Carter, and by two brothers, Lamont Lawhon and William Lawhon. Surviving are: his wife, Lazette Cole Lawhon of the home; his children, Gene (Debbie C.) Lawhon of Effingham, Alan (Debbie M.) Lawhon of Effingham, Suzette (Greg) Reynolds of Timmonsville, and Wilbur (Dale) Cole of Effingham, eight grandchildren, Dara (Steve) Drummond, Alex Cole and Casey Cole, all of Effingham, Temple (A.J.) Melton of Tallahassee, Fla., Alana Lawhon, and Adam Lawhon, both of Florence, Landon Reynolds and Marjorie Reynolds, both of Timmonsville; two great-grandchildren, Wlaker Drummond and Cole Drummond, both of Effingham; and two sisters, Cora Alice Lawrence and Mary Ham, both of Effingham. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Elim Baptist Church Van Fund, 1303 Olanta Highway, Effingham, S.C. 29541.
