Funeral services will be Friday, June 8, 2012, in Elim Baptist Church, Effingham, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Moore Family Life Center of Elim Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Moore Family Life Center of Elim Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Mrs. Ham was born in Effingham on August 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Hallie Landon Lawhon and Minnie Purvis Lawhon. She was married for sixty-seven years to her beloved husband, Wilbur M. Ham, Sr., who passed away July 16, 2007. Mrs. Ham was a member of Elim Baptist Church, Efifngham. Before her illness, she was a long time, faithful member of the Adult Choir, the Sunshine Ladies Sunday School Class, the Frances Skinner WMU Group, the J.O.Y. Club, as well as many other functions of the church. Mrs. Ham was claims supervisor for the South Carolina Employment Security Commission in Florence until her retirement. She was a member of the State Retirees Association and the Winthrop College Alumni Association. Surviving are a daughter, Yvonne Ham Cannon and her husband Neveland of Turbeville; two sons, Wilbur M. "Buck" Ham, Jr. and his wife Jeanette, and R. Wayne Ham and his wife Betty, both of Effingham; six grandsons, Glenn (Julie) Ham of Effingham, Todd (Sally) Ham of Timmonsville, Tracy (Susan) Huggins of Florence, Ashley (Lindsey) Cannon of Lexington, Gowdy Cannon of Chicago, IL, and Jeremy (Lacie) Cannon of Turbeville; three grand-daughters, Kim (Mark) Driggers of Turbeville, Beth (Ricky) Moore and Barbara (Adam) Moore, both of Effingham; and eighteen great-grandchildren, Tyler Ham, Jesslyn Ham, Hoyt Ham, Hallie Ham, Mary Kathryn Driggers, Maggie Driggers, Camille Driggers, Michelle Huggins, Ryan Huggins, Caleb Huggins, Jackson Lee Cannon, Hudson Cannon, Blaine Cannon, Brandon Moore, Andrew Moore, Sara Moore, Jonah Moore, and Jonathan Moore. Mrs. Ham was predeceased by three sisters, Margie L. Bacot, Lalla L. Carter, and Cora Alice L. Lawrence, and two brothers, Robert Lamont Lawhon, Sr., and Don Eugene Lawhon, Sr. Memorials may be made to Elim Baptist Church Bus Fund, 1303 Olanta Highway, Effingham, SC 29541. The family will be at the home of Buck and Jeanette Ham, 1611 Olanta Highway, Effingham. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Heritage Home of Florence for providing excellent care and much kindness to their mother, who had been a resident there since December 19, 2005, as well as extending a special thank you to the medical staff of Third Floor West of the McLeod Regional Medical Center Tower.
