Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemtery in Eureka. He was born June 17, 1959 at Eureka, the son of Doyle and Emma Louise (Vanderbilt) Purkeypile. A lifetime resident of the Eureka area, Don attended Adventist Grade School in Eureka and two years at Enterprise Academy. He then graduated from Eureka High School in the Class of 1977. He later attended Butler County Community College. On Dec. 18, 1983, he married Melissa Rachelle Schlotterbeck at Eureka. They made their home in Eureka with the exception of a short time in Dodge City and one year residing in El Dorado. He was a pipeline equipment operator for Purkeypile Construction, Inc. in Eureka. He was a member of the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as a head deacon. He was also a member of the Greenwood County Cancer Support Group. Don was an avid basketball player, and played on Purkeypile Construction basketball teams. He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and one son Dane, both of the home; his parents, Doyle and Emma Purkeypile of Eureka; two brothers, Allan Purkeypile of Eureka and Dean Purkeypile of Lenexa; two sisters, Ellen Martin of Rogers, Ark., and Marsha Lawinsky of Enterprise, Kansas. Memorials have been established for the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School and the Dane Purkeypile Education Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home, Inc., in Eureka, which is in charge of the arrangements.
