Description	:	Donald Arthur Riggs was born November 22, 1920 to Rev. Fred Arthur and Lilly Mae (Repp) Riggs in Garber, Iowa. His family moved frequently as his father served as a minister for the United Brethren Church. Donald graduated from Webster City in 1939 and later that year the family moved to Ames. In 1941, Donald started working at the power plant for the City of Ames Electric Department. He entered the Army Air Corp later in 1941 and served in WWII until discharged in 1945. Fred Arthur and Lilly Mae (Repp) Riggs in Garber, Iowa. His family moved frequently as his father served as a minister for the United Brethren Church. Donald graduated from Webster City in 1939 and later that year the family moved to Ames. In 1941, Donald started working at the power plant for the City of Ames Electric Department. He entered the Army Air Corp later in 1941 and served in WWII until discharged in 1945. Donald met Doris Griffith in 1940 and they were married in 1941. They celebrated 70 years together before Doris passed away in 2012. After the war, Donald returned to work for the city of Ames. He advanced in positions while working at the light plant and in 1971 was named the City of Ames Power Plant Superintendent. When he retired in 1982, he was honored with a key to the city of Ames for “his faithfulness, ability, and longevity.” Donald was active in his church (Calvary United Methodist), the men's and seniors bowling league and the Songbirds. He enjoyed working over 20 years as an usher for the Iowa State football program. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; his daughter, Janie; three sisters; and three brothers.
