At least 10 persons have died on Iowa highways this Labor Day weekend, including three young nurses from West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park, Ill., in a two -car crash on U.S. Highway 61 two miles west of Blue Grass in Muscatine County. The victims, Dora Riggs, 19, of Ames, Mary Blaes, 20, of Frankfort, Ky., and Marlene Schutte, 21, of Worth, Ill., died late Saturday night. The forth occupant of the car, Dr. K.T. Bose, 24, an intern at the Oak Park hospital, is hospitalized in fair condition there. He was transferred Sunday from Muscatine General Hospital. IDENTITY ESTABLISHED. Due to confusion at the hospital and at the accident scene Miss Schutte was at first identified as Martha Scott, 21, of Flushing, Mich. Correct Identification was made, however, when notifying next of kin. Services for Marlene Schutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schutt, will be held Wednesday in Evergreen Funeral Home in Worth. Mary Blaes, daughter of John W. Blaes, was taken to a funeral home in Frankfort for services Thursday, and Adams Funeral Home, Ames, is in charge of arrangements for Miss Riggs. WALCOTT RESIDENTS INVOLVED. Officers said the victim's car driven by Miss Blaes, went out of control, ran onto the shoulder of the road, then veered back onto the road and collided with a car driven by Galen Engler, 24, of Walcott. He and his wife, Nancy, and two other passengers, Duane Harvey and his wife Donna, were treated and released from Muscatine General Hospital. The Muscatine Journal and News-Tribune. Three young nurses died Saturday night as the result of a two-car crash on Highway 61, two miles west of Blue Grass. killed in the Muscatine county crash were Mary Blaes, 20, Frankfort, Ky., and Dora Riggs, 19, Ames. Marlene Schutt, 21, Worth, Ill., died several hours later at Muscatine General hospital. Miss Blaes, driver of the car, and Miss Schutt, were graduate nurses of West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park, Ill. Miss Riggs was a student nurser at the same hospital. The three nurses were in a 1964, Corvair owned by Dr. K.T. Bose, 24, an intern at the Oak Park Hospital. Dr. Bose, who was seriously injured in the crash, was taken by ambulance Sunday to the hospital at Oak Park. The four were returning to Oak Park from Burlington where they had attended a wedding . Sheriff Richard Oppelt and Highwasy Patrolman Gene Koble said the collision occurred at 7:3 p.m. Saturday. Miss Blaes reportedly lost control of the Car and had gone out on the left shoulder. In attempting to move back to the right lane, she turned directly in front of a car driven by Galen Engler, 24, of Walcott, who was driving east on 61. With Engler were his wife, Nancy, Duane Harvey, 24, and Donna Harvey, 19. Sheriff Oppelt said both cars contained seat belts, but they were not in use by any of the occupants. The four Walcott persons were on their way to the Hawkeye Speedway stock car track four miles west of Blue Grass. They escaped with cuts and bruises and Harvey had an ankle injury. D.Jane Riggs rites Wednesday. D. Jane Riggs, 19, 225 South Kellogg Ave., died Saturday in an automobile accident on US. 61 two miles west of Bluegrass near Muscatine. She was one of three nurses at West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park, 19, who died in a two car collision while returning from taking part in a wedding ceremony in Burlington. Born in Ames, she graduated form Ames High School in 1963. She was in her second year of nursing at Oak Park, Ill. She was a member of the evangelical United Brethren Church of Ames. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Riggs and a sister, Peggy Ann. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Evangelical United Brethren Church with the Rev. E.E. Peters of the church officiating. Burial is to be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Adams Funeral Home until noon Wednesday. A memorial fund for medical missions of the Evangelical United Brethren Church has been established. Contributions may be left at the church office here.
