Description	:	Donald Kiser, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 14, 11:00 A.M. at the Federated Church with Rev. Jane Ellefson officiating. There will be a private family interment at the Valley View Cemetery in Genoa with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. Donald D. “Coly” Kiser was born August 10, 1926, to Samuel H. and Mattie (Zehr) Kiser, at their home on the island near Bellwood, Nebraska. He attended school in Columbus before moving to Genoa in 1933 and graduated from Genoa High School. On June 1, 1944, Don entered the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He served on the LST and Destroyer Escort in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on June 8, 1946. After returning from the Navy, Don married his high school sweetheart, Margaret L. Goodwin on August 11, 1946, in Genoa. He went to work in 1949 for EM Biggs Wholesale Company in Columbus and then went to work for SS Hadley and Hadley Braithwait Company. In 1959, Don and his partner Bob Olson, purchased Hadley Braithwait. While working there, they also purchased the KO Vending Company. In 2000, Don bought out his partner and became sole owner of the business. He continued to work until his retirement in 2009 after 60 years with the same company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, doing yardwork and was a fixture at auctions for over 70 years. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Don was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and Ducks Unlimited.
