Mr. Smith was born Jan. 25, 1921, at Clay Center, the son of Harry and Elta (Ramsey) Smith. He graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1938. He married Louise Keeler Nov. 9, 1944. She preceded him in death Dec. 21, 1996. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center with the Rev. Susan Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
