He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Latham, Kansas, the son of Bertrum and Lois (Ryan) Stokes. He lived in Latham until 1944 and then moved to El Dorado. In 1945 he moved south of Moran. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 in France. In 1956 he moved to Humboldt, moved to Odence, and then to Chanute, where he has resided since. Read More	******************************* Published Aug. 27, 2004 - Chanute, KS Donald Dean Stokes, 72, of Chanute, Kansas, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in Chanute, Kansas. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Latham, Kansas, the son of Bertrum and Lois (Ryan) Stokes. He lived in Latham until 1944 and then moved to El Dorado. In 1945 he moved south of Moran. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 in France. In 1956 he moved to Humboldt, moved to Odence, and then to Chanute, where he has resided since. He worked for Chanute Manufacturing as a load out lead man. He was a member of Faith Bible Church. He married Vera Tague on May 30, 1956, in Iola, Kansas. She preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1991. He later married Janis McGaugh on May 22, 1993, in Chanute, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, William Stokes, of Chanute, KS; two daughters, Karen Stokes and Janet Stokes, both of Chanute, KS; seven brothers, Allen Stokes of Iola, KS, John Stokes of Denver, CO, Bertrum Stokes Jr. of Neosho Falls, KS, Darrell Stokes of Gas, KS, and Charlie Stokes of Haysville, KS; one sister, Linda Williams, of LaCeyne, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Stokes; one infant daughter, Loretta Stokes; five brothers, Bill, Harlen, Robert, Jim and Sam Stokes; and two sisters, Virginia Andrews and Mary Stokes. Funeral services will be Monday, at Faith Bible Church, led by the Rev.'s R.A. Pefley and Steve Pefley. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, KS. Military honors will be presented by Chanute American Legion Post 170. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday, at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel. Memorials to the Faith Bible Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society may be left at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements. ***********************************
