Read More	Obituary from Hutchinson News, 6/14/1959, w/photo: Blind Piano Tuner Dies Donald Gibbs, blind piano tuner here for 16 years, died unexpectedly in his home, 16 West 6th, at 8:10 p.m. Saturday. He had complained of pains in his abdomen four hours before death. Mr. Gibbs was well known around Hutchinson because of his affliction. He had been blind since a month after birth but had tried to live a normal life. He married a fellow blind student at the School for the Blind in Kasnas City. She has been blind since she was two years old. They had two children and have raised them as normal children, turning on lights at nights when the two daughters were younger. The daughters, Norma and Marie, were adept at an early age in guiding their father and mother around town but Mr. Gibbs especially was able to swing along Main Street about as fast as a man with eyesight could walk. He knew all bumps and crossings. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs have done evangelistic work and have given mustic recitals. He plays the accordion and the piano. Mrs. Gibbs plays the piano. Mr. Gibbs even tried newspaper work for a few weeks. He brought in items to The News which he had inscribed in Braille. These were mostly reports on his church meetings. Mr. Gibbs was born in Colony, Kan., April 10, 1898. He was a member of the First Nazarene Church and a faithful attendant. Survivors are his widow, Elsie; two daughters, Norma and Marie; his father, John, Wichita; a brother, J.R. Wichita; five sisters, Mrs. Paul McConnel, Amarillo, Mrs. George Bagley, White Deer, Tex., Mrs. Dorothy Byers, Mrs. Ira Whitworth and Mrs. Margaret Newland, all of Chanute. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Church of Nazarene with burial in Fairview Cemetery north of Sylvia, Rev. M.E. Clay officiating.
