Description	:	Donald Duane Jansen, 88, of Onslow, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home, of a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006. at 10:30 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming, with the Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. Burial will be held in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are preferred. Donald was born on September 3, 1917 at Onslow, Iowa, the son of John & Ina Mae (Young) Jansen. He attended Onslow High School graduating in 1935. He worked for the Smith Hybrid Corn Company in Onslow and Iowa City. He married Ruth Lathrop on June 12, 1940 near Onslow, Iowa. Don worked at the Onslow Post Office and then went to Marion Welding School in Marion, Iowa, and opened a welding shop in Onslow, Iowa. He then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked at the La Plante Choate Heavy Equipment Company. He worked for Linn County Coop in Marion, Iowa, and he also worked with his grandson, Jason Martensen tiling with J & D Construction, Inc., Lost Nation. He built over 200 farm ponds in Jones County. He cleaned the land for the development of Jones County Central Park and Little Bear Golf Course. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Onslow, Onslow Men's Club, the L.I.C.A. (Land Improvement Contractors Association), the Model Gas Engine Club of Cedar Rapids, a 63 year member of the Masonic Lodge Ancient Landmark #200 of Olin, and the Consistory Lodge in Clinton, Iowa. He was a member of the Model A Car Club and a charter member of the Little Bear Country Club, Wyoming. Don served on the Onslow City Council for 35 years. Don was an avid outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Northern Minnesota and Canada. He was a collector and builder of antique gas and steam engines, old trains and old antique clocks, that he shared with his grandson, Eric Danielson. He spent many years exhibiting and attending Gas Engines Shows in the Mid West. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Jansen of Onslow; 2 daughters, Jerilyn Husmann and Joan Davis (Don Buchholtz) of Wyoming, 2 grandsons, Jason (Pam) Martensen of Lost Nation and Eric Danielson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2 great-grandchildren, Alaina and Avery Martensen, and one brother, Daryl (Edna) Jansen of Onslow. He is also suvived by a brother-in-law, Forrest Briggs of Redlands, California, and neices and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Clare. Don will be remembered by his storytelling and humorous jokes. He was a very positive person and enjoyed making people laugh. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special in his life. Don was known as "Don-Don the Pancake Man" for his original homemade pancakes and his secret to only flip them once and use buttermilk. A special thank you to all of our friends and family who offered love and concern during his illness. A most special thanks to members of Hospice of Mercy Hospital and the Doctors. Thank you to Dr. Hamilton and a special thanks to Pastor Miller for all of his support during Don's Illness.
