Fairburn, Sr. passed away due to complications from lung cancer, in Portland, OR, on December 8, 2012, surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Nancy, and his beloved children. Donald E. Fairburn, Sr. was born August 5, 1926, in Beaverdam Ohio and was the son of Kent and Minnie Winegardner-Fairburn. Donald was a graduate of Middletown Senior High School, Middleton, OH, class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a graduate of Wittenberg, College, Springfield, OH, class of 1952. He retired as Manager of Holy Cross Cemetery in 1991. He was Past President of the Washington Interment Association, Past President of Catholic Cemeteries of the Northwest, appointed to Washington State Cemetery Board by Governor Dix Lee Ray in 1980 and served until 1984. Donald was a member of The National Catholic Cemetery Association, The National Cemetery Association, Cremation Association of North America and served as Executive Secretary of the Northwest Cremation Association for several years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 55 years. Donald was also a loyal member of the "ROMEOS" for 19 years. His loving wife of over 62 years, Nancy (Gift) Fairburn and three children survive him. Andrea Beth (Gregg) Jensen of Hillsboro, OR, Jane Rosanne (Gary) Fields of Beaverton, OR and Donald Eugene (Brenda) Fairburn, Jr., of Beaverton, OR; two grandchildren Kyle Jacob (Robyn) Fairburn and Kayla Rose Fairburn, both of Beaverton, OR. Three stepsisters; Eileen (Charles) Strausbaugh of Forest, OH, Judy Parker of Franklin, OH, Bobbie Sue (Joseph) Hennessey of Tempe, AZ and one-step brother James (Charlene) Parker of Rockwell, TX. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, March 1, 2013 at Messiah Lutheran Church located at 4202 North Belt Street, Spokane, WA 99205. Published in Spokesman-Review on Feb. 13, 2013
